The Alliance for the Children is a nonprofit organization (501-c-3) and has no paid employees. We are a Ministry which provides family intervention for those in need but focuses on the children while doing so. To execute on this philosophy, we locate communities in need and will focus on them, being them over the years as their children grow. The main goal of the Alliance for the Children is to help create an environment that will nurture the growth of productive members of our society. Our programs work through the families and caregivers In order to create family unity and build an environment for success. In doing so, we are promoting “unity in the family” and “Creating Happy Childhood Memories”. In staying with them over time, we are providing “Lasting Childhood Memories”.

Our programs are varied and provide assistance in many aspects of a youngsters’ life. Whether providing clothing to keep children healthy and in school for an opportunity to learn; food on weekends to those whose main meal is in school during the week; school supplies for children to be able to do their work at home; books for libraries, our goal is the same, nurturing productive members who will contribute in our society.

Our tools for schools program provides backpacks and a year’s school supplies and takes place in August. Additionally, our “Families in Need” program exists to provide aid for an extended period enabling our families to get back on their feet. This aid is specific to each family and is designed to support the family without being intrusive, allowing the parents and guardians to provide a loving, healthy and safe environment for their family.

With our programs we are not providing “a handout”, but rather “a hand up”.

Detail on some of our main programs:

Giving Tree Program: One of our largest programs is worked on from January thru December each year. It is designed to provide new clothing and toys to children at Christmas-time. We work collaboratively with program directors and school administrators to identify children from birth to 18 years of age who are most in need of intervention. Donations of new clothing and toys are accepted through various “Giving Tree” programs. Donors take a tag of a child and purchase toy and clothing items for the child. These items, specific for size and age, are collected and placed in the child’s bag. Monetary donations are also collected and used toward the purchase of toy or clothing items needed to complete each child’s bag. When completed, a typical child’s bag will include: two outfits, underwear, socks, boots, a coat, hat, gloves, and an age appropriate toy bag worth an average of $100 - $300. The child’s bag is given to the child’s parents or guardians so they may create their own family holiday.

School Rewards Program: The rewards program was started during the 2005-2006 school year. This program is built on the widely recognized success of positive reinforcement as a motivational tool. Schools are supplied with several thousand toys which are earned by the children as a reward for their good behavior, attitude, attendance and performance. The rewards are given after a pre-determined number of points are accumulated by the child. The children are allowed to go “shopping” in the Reward’s Store.

Tools for School Program: Provides essential, age-appropriate school supplies to the children for use in the completion of homework assignments as well as classroom activities. Backpacks, paper, folders, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, scissors, rulers, glue, crayons, markers, etc. are supplied to the teachers to be divided among the students and used throughout the year. These supplies allow teachers the opportunity to keep all of their students actively involved in the learning process rather than having to rely only on demonstrations or group work because there is a shortage of materials.

Clothing Distribution Program for Adults and Children: This program is designed to help out entire families who are in need of clothing items. Some of the items that have been distributed through this program include: outfits to wear for on a job interview, maternity clothes, winter clothing for families new to a colder climate, or clothing necessary because of losses suffered due to a fire or flood.
